Newspaper industries –ownership and control question: who controls The Observer / Guardian and what are its values? The political party that the Observer are affiliated with are the Liberal Democrats. The Liberal Democrats are the part that push for more power in the state and social equality. The Observer believes in the values of being honest, acting with integrity and fairness and courage. They are owned by the Scott trust limited. They were founded in 1791.   

Press freedom and regulation question: What is meant by 'a free press'? When The Guardian newspaper investigated (and revealed) what The News of The World newspaper had done to get stories, what big changes in press regulation resulted? A free press is when the press is not held to any government body. There has been recent changes in regard to the current regulatory body and if it should be changed or removed due to its incompetence. 

Convergence question: "When newspapers operate online there is technological and cultural convergence." What does this mean in The Observer? If you are reading a Hard copy or the online version they have the same values and similar articles. meaning that the the two versions are coming together under the same flag. 

Newspaper audiences question: The Observer has different sections designed to appeal to different types of readers. Explain this with examples. There is a sports section to appeal to sports fans and a cooking section. there is also a TV section for people who might be wanting to find something to watch on TV or which movie stars are the ones to watch. this fulfils peoples need for surveillance form the Blumer and Katz's theory.

Uses and gratification question: how does The Observer meet readers' needs for personal identity and social integration? It keeps readers up to date with the world around them and the social state. this fulfils the need for surveillance allowing the reader to stay up to date in the world. their need for social integration can be fulfilled by the ability to comment on the twitter page allowing people to voice their opinions and thoughts. 

Active/passive audiences question: in what way can The Observer's audience be 'active' ? they can be active by being able to voice there opinions by commenting on the twitter page or the online version.
